Inspiration for my mini Shark Ornament
This mini Shark Ornament is modelled on the Nursehound Shark (also known as the large-spotted dogfish, greater spotted dogfish or bull huss). I regularly find mermaid’s purses on my walks along the Kent coast and have always thought that their shape is one of nature’s best designs. Even the name Mermaid’s Purse makes them feel a little magical – even more so when one imagines the baby shark inside. If you google it, there are some wonderful images on-line where the baby shark is clearly visible through the walls of the egg case. So as a minimum, my Mermaid’s Purse Pendant had to feature a little looky hole with a baby shark. And of course, when a model exists, making other items from them, like this baby shark ornament, is tempting and easy.
These sharks are widespread around the UK. They stay close to the sea floor and live in rocky areas with lots of algae. They are night hunters feeding on squid, octopus, crabs, large shrimps and even other sharks!
