Inspiration for my Emperor Moth Pendant
The males of the species have a wingspan of about 60mm, whereas the females are about 80mm across. This model has a wingspan of 36mm – so is a rather petite version of the real thing. It is however the perfect size for a delicate pendant or even as eyecatching earrings.
While common across Britain, the Emperor Moth obviously has it’s band of loyal followers. The original Emperor Moth Pendant was commissioned as a special present for a young moth enthusiast. Then one of my best friends chose this moth as the main design for her wedding stationery. When modelling moths, I always get wooed by the wonderful feathered antennae. So, as it is only the males that have these, I always end up modelling males rather than females. It has definitely given me a better appreciation of moths and their beauty since modelling my first moth back in about 2017. As well as their antennae, I am always drawn to their endearingly furry bodies. While this is the latest of my moths, I’m sure it won’t be the last moth that I model.
If moths are your thing (and I’ve realised since becoming a wildlife jeweller that they definitely are mine), then this pendant would pair well with the Madagascan Moon Moth drop earrings.
