Inspiration for my small Tree Frog Brooch

I have always had a great love of animals and frogs have to be amongst the most charismatic of them all. They always make me smile – as I’m sure they do many people. My original idea was based on a common garden frog – but the wonderful shape of the tree frog stole my attention. The model for this small Tree Frog Brooch is a popular member of my collection. It is small enough to wear with a multitude of outfits – but it retains the big character of my original Red-Eyed Tree Frog (nicknamed Quasimodo).

Once I finished my large frog, I had a cascade of requests for other tree frog themed jewellery – the first of which being Tree Frog Rings. Then, when asked for a smal tree frog pendant, I used as a starting point the wax of the side-facing tree frog ring. So you may spot a similarity in their faces… Like identical twins. The first version I modelled was the one with the leg tucked in. But inevitably, I received a request for a small version of Quasi – leg stretched out. And so now the choice is yours. These are the brooch versions.

Oh – and I did eventually get around to modelling the good old Common Frog. Firstly modelled as a miniature “good luck” frog, which has led to a very popular ring version. And, as I write this, I have a model or a large common frog (roughly life-size) waiting to be sent to casting for the first time.
