Inspiration for the Green Crested Lizard
For a number of years now, I have kept a jewellery design notebook and, alongside frogs, lizards were amongt the first entries. So a lizard pendant was inevitable.
I set out intending to model the lovely smooth, curvy common garden lizard – but my attention was captured by the wonderfully charismatic head and crest of the Green Crested Lizard, with his throat pouch and his somewhat stiff and angular body.
However, once I sat there with the photos ready, I realised that I was in danger of getting it all wrong. I decided that the only way that I was going to get the arms and legs in the right places was if I modelled a green crested lizard standing normally – and hence my lizard ornament. Once I had modelled him properly, I cast him back into wax and manipulated the body and legs into that fabulous rock-clinging pose. My lizard pendant has since been one of my biggest stars.
