Inspiration for my Oxeye Daisy Pendant
I am very fortunate to have a mature cottage garden, full of flowers of all types. When designing my bumblebee ring, the image that kept popping into my mind was of the bees buzzing in and out of the oxeye daisies in my garden. And so they naturally came into my collection, initially by way of the bumblebee and daisy ring. It has been a popular marriage so a queen bee and a larger, to scale, oxeye daisy were inevitable. Initially modelling the larger daisy to make a large Queen Bumblebee and Daisy Necklace, I then realised that I liked it simply by itself. Hence my Oxeye Daisy Pendant.
Once completed, I played around with the design. I firstly found that I liked it with the leather cord, as it highlights the contrast of the piece. Secondly, I feel like the queen bee and the oxeye daisy pendant belong together. So I wear them as a double pendant with the daisy on a very short leather cord, and the queen bee on a longer silver chain.
Being an animal lover, I have been surprised by the very positive reaction that this pendant receives. Whereas, when I started modelling, I preferred to focus solely on the animals. Over time, leaves and flowers have slowly crept in to my collection. And now, I love the connections I can make between the pieces: the bees loving daisies, earwigs loving the damp, dark ivy, … There is a lot more to be explored here.
