Green Crested Lizard Brooch

£385.00

Lizards are a great favourite of mine– and this green crested lizard, clinging to a near-vertical rock face, was so particularly charismatic that I couldn’t resist trying to model him.

This is the brooch version of my very popular Green Crested Lizard Pendant.

Note: most photos show the pendant version. The lizard is the same model as that of the pendant. All findings (clasp and pin) are sterling silver.

Inspiration for the Green Crested Lizard

For a number of years now, I have kept a jewellery design notebook and, alongside frogs, lizards were amongt the first entries. So a lizard pendant was inevitable… and a lizard brooch was the obvious next step.

I set out intending to model the lovely smooth, curvy common garden lizard – but my attention was captured by the wonderfully charismatic head and crest of the Green Crested Lizard, with his throat pouch and his somewhat stiff and angular body.

However, once I sat there with the photos ready, I realised that I was in danger of getting it all wrong. I decided that the only way that I was going to get the arms and legs in the right places was if I modelled a green crested lizard standing normally – and hence my lizard ornament. Once I had modelled him properly, I cast him back into wax and manipulated the body and legs into that fabulous rock-clinging pose. My lizard pendant has since been one of my biggest stars and this brooch is fast following in it’s footsteps.
