Inspiration for my Green Crested Lizard
For a number of years now, I have kept a jewellery design notebook and, alongside frogs, lizard designs were amongst the first entries – so a lizard pendant was inevitable. And modelling this lizard ornament was a necessary step in getting to the final lizard design.
Basically I completely fell in love with a photograph of a green crested lizard clinging precariously to a rock face and just had to model it in that position for my pendant. However, once I sat there with the photos ready, I realised that I was in danger of getting it all wrong. I decided that the only way that I was going to get the arms and legs in the right places was if I modelled a green crested lizard standing normally – and hence my lizard ornament.
Once I had modelled him properly, I cast him back into wax and manipulated the body and legs into that fabulous rock-clinging pose. My lizard pendant has since been one of my biggest stars.
